Random ramblings…

Ok, so for the last few weeks I have been having an issue with Win 7 (64bit) and iTunes – specifically the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) not recognizing my iPod Touch 1G.  iTunes would run and everything, but wouldn’t see the iPod.

I think* it had to do with a Visual Studio install on a Windows 7 64bit machine, but I can’t prove that.  Here’s what the error log stated:

“Faulting application name: AppleMobileDeviceService.exe, version: 2.50.39.0, time stamp: 0×4a5d2d41
Faulting module name: RPCRT4.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0×4a5bdb3b
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0×00017ac2
Faulting process id: 0xd1c
Faulting application start time: 0×01cab4bb490e2909
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\RPCRT4.dll”

Here’s how I fixed it:

I downloaded v.8 of iTunes, unzipped using WinRAR so I could install AMDS only.  I uninstalled the newest version that was installed with iTunes 9.0.3, and installed the AMDS version from v.8.

Open up regedit -> go to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apple Inc.\Apple Mobile Device Support

Under version change the value to 2.12.33.0

Restart AMDS and open iTunes and it should recognize your iPod and sync.

Here’s my blog – first post.  Nothing exciting, just glad to get WP installed and running correctly.
